Meg

Promo Single - A Song For / Patch

Play 90 second soundbite of 'A Song For' @ 'CD quality'

'A Song For' has been beefed up somewhat and benefits both from that new beefiness and a great production. Meg fans will certainly love this reworking. It still carries Meg's simplistic style and approach but feels so much more together throughout. The lead vocals are given some nice support with impressive backing vox. The whole piece seems more punchy, it's a pretty commercial sounding song anyway but definitely works better now.

'Patch' has quite a raw feel to it. Once again there's the stereotypical Meg naivity in the melody and the slightly wavering but somehow effective vocals. It's (too) short for my liking but it does grow on you. How long before this gets revamped into another fresh sounding number I wonder?

Meg, for me, are getting better. They sound more together. They appear to be putting more into their works and really thinking about the end result. They still make me smile - which aint a bad thing - we all need to smile!!

Meg have always felt to me like a band I'd love to hate. But I don't!! No matter how hard I try to dislike Meg and their music I can't help feeling that they're really trying to be just that little bit different. For that alone they get my appreciation. Even if I really hated this single release (which I don't!!), I'd still find something quirky if a little uneasy about the two songs. Once again the (limited) artwork and presentation are superb; limited because my promo copy doesn't have any front cover artwork which just lets the overall presentation down. Given the choice I'd want the missing artwork which would finish off a very professional package.

Keep on doin' what you're doin' Meg; you deserve to get some respect and if you carry on working your material out like this I'm sure you'll build up a faithful following further afield.
