Play 90 second soundbite of 'Something Opens Windows' @ 'CD quality'
A moody but quite vibrant work that refuses to be genre labelled - not pop, not indie, not folk - more boundless than any of the more normal conventional, commercial musical genre - workmanlike, smart, mature and very, very easy on the ear.
Quite obviously a songwriter of some distinction, clearly a great musician and most notably a stunning vocalist, Mark Ruebery sings from the heart and lays his soul on the line with this mildly balladic offering, 'Something Opens Windows'. Ruebery has a mature voice and wonderfully precise delivery, facts which make his songs very accessible and extremely compelling. A bit like Billy Joel I suppose, Ruebery writes with similar passion and performs with similar belief and individualism. Yes, Ruebery gives it his all and yet I'm sure he's got more 'up his sleeve' if required; his ability to bring the emotional side of his songs to the listener is remarkable. Ruebery draws you in, slowly at first, then suddenly you're in and hooked - Ruebery is like a slow-release medication that takes that little bit longer to act upon you mind and your system. But, once under the influence, it's hard to break the 'habit'!
Mark Ruebery's music isn't brash or manic in any way, it's softly compulsive and gently persuasive! Ruebery grows slowly but surely; 'Something Opens Windows' isn't pure pop by any stretch of the imagination, it kinda sits on mid-ground between individualistically acoustic and commercially sound - intelligent-folk perhaps! Certainly there's a maturity to what this young man does and 'Something Opens Windows' is surely destined to get decent air-play and with further exposure Mark Ruebery could start to make his mark on the music scene in a big way.
'Something Opens Windows' by the awesomely talented and extremely likeable Mark Ruebery is more of a slow grower than a true hard-hitting pop song; I'm sure that Ruebery will pull in many new 'friends' and believers with this tasty little work and slowly he'll start to make a well earned impression and climb up the success ladder to become a household name in the not too distant future. 'Something Opens Windows' by Mark Ruebery is a great introduction to a new rising star and should do well.
