Play 90 second soundbite of 'Little Light Lit' @ 'CD quality'
And so to business. Reading up on this lady made me realise that this is no ordinary singer/songwriter. Her pedigree is pretty damn impressive and so, I have to say, is this three track work. Marie, from Copenhagen, has put together a brilliant demo here; so good that at the moment I just can't take it off the player.
'Jack Of Heart' opens things up with moody country/folk feel, then there follows the haunting but stunningly beautiful 'Little Light Lit' with its darker, very contemporary feel and 'My Love My Honey', which could almost be classed as a modern, gritty blues, finishes things off. Stunning - just stunning!!
Marie has kept instrumentation simple but very effective; everything's carefully slotted in its place to just punctuate and enhance her silky, sultry voice. This is a totally absorbing and very classy piece of work and I'm almost lost for words to describe my excitement here. This really does work for me - it's right up my street. It's almost, dare I say, unique. If you want comparisons, think of the music of Joni Mitchell, lyrics of Alanis Morissette, originality of Bjork and (for the older guys and gals out there) the avant-garde of Nico. Chuck that lot into the melting pot, stir it up, pour it out and you're only just getting there!! Interestingly, just as you start to think that Marie Fisker sounds like someone else you realise that actually she doesn't - she just sounds like Marie Fisker - end of story! It's not for the fainthearted though; this is hardball on a softball court - proper music for proper music lovers and it's mindnumbingly good!!
More please Marie - I'm addicted!! Totally hooked!! Just reel me in - now!!
