Play 90 second soundbite of 'Indian Summer' @ 'CD quality'
Their chosen stylee is fresh and original; can't think of many bands doin' quite what they're doin'! Man Over Board! are a five piece outfit and with this latest release, 'Indian Summer', they've laid down four very tasty tracks in 'Shot Gun Blues', 'Lemon Juice', 'Indian Summer' and 'Urban Poetry'.
This EP is a real blast! It's got a massive feel and drags you in with its clever variations and arrangements. 'Shot Gun Blues' opens the EP in fine fashion; soulful and funky (not at all blues!),
it bops along with catchy keys that tormenting rhythms. Good way to start! Next comes 'Lemon Juice', and what a track this is! Wow, Man Over Board! have certainly gone to town with this one - it's hot, clever and so different - the way Man Over Board! have built this piece is awesome - using repetitive riffs and themes that just get at ya the guys totally nail it with this dance/rock fusion. Wonderful piece of work. Tracks three and four threw me at first as they show up as just one track; 'Indian Summer' chucks yet another theme into the ever growing pot; not surprisingly there's a distinctly Indian vibe goin' one which works splendidly and conjures up visions of hot, hazy and trippy days of yesteryear al la early Traffic etc. And, as it melds seamlessly into the massive 'Urban Poetry' I'm taken on a totally different trip. Brilliant!!
The way that Man Over Board! have crafted these tracks is amazing; great kick-ass, stonkin' songs that cry out for more plays. Not at all what I expected - no way! More, much more than anything I'd imagined - superb. And now I'm running out of superlatives here - I'd better stop before the expletives start creeping in.
This is a bloody good EP! No, an excellent EP!! Exquisitely worked, stunningly addressed and fuelled with toxicity that'll do yer head in! It just keeps comin' at you. Impressive, awesome, and so,so original. What a great piece of work. Man Over Board! seem to have hit on something very special if this selection is anything to go by. Stunningly original - mindblowingly moreish and nicely up my street. Think I'll just press replay - again!!
