Mamas Gun

Single - Pots Of Gold

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Pots Of Gold' @ 'CD quality'

'Pots Of Gold' is taken from the debut album, 'Routes To Riches' and is also the debut single release from super slick soulsters Mamas Gun. Full of summery promise for the hot, balmy night ahead, 'Pots Of Gold' is a soulful groover from the exceptional talent that is singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/producer/designer/animator, Andy Platts.

For a piece of nu-soul/R&B, 'Pots Of Gold' is superbly restrained in the instrumental department. Not only are the vocals as slick as can be, everything else is just so beautifully balanced and subtly worked behind the voice. Even the horns, so often jarringly up-front and a-beltin' out, are mixed well back but still add just the right degree of sexiness and depth to the score. Mamas Gun brings old school soul up-to-date and makes it once again a viable and commercial musical proposition. If this is typical, and the press pack leads me to believe it is, then the future surely must be 'golden' for Mamas Gun as the band croon and cruise their way to pop stardom with their effortless mixture of smoochy grooves and sultry vibes.

Mamas Gun really do put the soul back into soul music; not only is everything honed to perfection but the overall feel of Mamas Gun is one of laid-back, harmonious music for the heart, soul for the soul. I suppose the only thing that might stop Mamas Gun is that this polished 'transatlantic' vibe isn't really where its at just now. However, cream always rises to the top and I can't help but feel that Mamas Gun's future will be pretty busy and pretty rewarding. 'Pots Of Gold' by Mamas Gun is perhaps a prophetic title and I can't see Mamas Gun failing with quality like this oozing from every orifice.
