Loz Jones has managed to surround himself with an extremely gutsy, like-minded band of musicians; this outfit sound really together, supremely tight and totally focussed on their main event - making good music that's not just following others, it's finding a new route and raising the alt-rock ante. Loz is the lead vocalist, and very impressive he is too, but cleverly, he's called upon the bright 'stars' that surround him and light him up; Natalie and Lucy (both synths and vocals) give him some well proportioned and beautifully executed vocal support here - and make a difference! The female voices give Jones a real edge over most of his contemporaries and Jones' 'nose' for great talent doesn't end there; also providing the concrete for the band's foundations are Bob (drums), Stuart (guitars) and Keith (bass) - a great coming together of expertise and influences that all pull together to make the 'whole' what it is.
Jones' songwriting is another 'plus-sign' in the band's favour; tracks here, eleven altogether, range from cool indie-pop to hefty alt-rock - great variation, great range, great balance. This is one impressive outfit that show massive potential with this excellent album. No-way does 'Spoiling It For Everyone' sound like a debut work; this is a solid, modernistic and extremely professional piece of work. Jones and the 'guys' let many varied nuances drift in and out of their music; the synths add really impressive and well proportioned electro vibes, the guitar provides a solid rock foundation with bass and drums laying down their super-tight and supportive backdrop for the others to loop in and out of - the result is a great sound that straddles several genre, is massively radio-friendly, instantly impressive and undeniably 'smart'.
'Spoiling It For Everyone' by Loz Jones is a fantastic piece of modern, all-encompassing, alt-rock with massive potential for wide recognition and commercial success. Loz Jones has chosen wisely, he's assembled an excellent band, he's penned a very impressive collection of commercially viable songs and he's managed to pull it all together in the form of the excellent 'Spoiling It For Everyone'. With decent promotion, good exposure, a little help from lady-luck and with the wind blowin' in the right direction I could see Loz Jones doin' very well for himself and his band. 'Spoiling It For Everyone' by Loz Jones is scarily good for a debut album - watch out for this lot, they might just be coming into your home very soon!! And, that title might just prove to be 'right on the money'; Loz Jones, with this sort of quality might just be raising the bar and 'spoiling it for everyone'!
