Play 90 second soundbite of 'Black Luck' @ 'CD quality'
Sitting courageously astride several popular genre, 'Limelight' is a mature work that slowly draws the listener into Tormes' beautifully melodic world with its gently lilting, softly nu-country undercurrents. With masses of 'grown-up' pop sensibility carefully placed into her musical melting pop, Tormes shows just what she's capable of with a set of exquisitely crafted songs that pretty much refuse to be pigeonholed. Something for everyone then? Well, yes actually but, not just for everyone but for most moods too - Tormes runs the gamut of emotions from darkly disquieting through to brightly optimistic with chilling reality and 'heart on her sleeve' honesty.
Liz Tormes cleverly keeps accompaniment uncluttered and concise - she lets her lyrics carry the songs and she delivers the words with eerily simplistic ease. The production is bright and sympathetic and results in an album that's just oh so easy to listen to and enjoy in its entirety. Certainly, when the thing ended I just wanted, no needed to, listen again. And, the feeling of having just experienced something quite unique and very special didn't evaporate with repeat visits - Liz Tormes just became more convincing and totally unputdownable!
'Limelight' is a stunning work and a scarily competent debut that suggests a massively successful future for Liz Tormes - surely Tormes can't fail to make an impression with material and performances such as this! 'Limelight' takes the listener on a rewarding and sentimental journey that's hard to describe; suffice to say that after listening to the entire album I wasn't sure where Tormes had sent me - I felt fulfilled yet I wanted more, I was uplifted yet somehow bereft of the ability to think clearly about what Tormes had just done to me. 'Limelight' by Liz Tormes is beautiful in its simplicity yet stunning in its execution - a real piece of modernistic nu-country/folk/pop that must make an impression and pave the way to success and acceptance for the fascinatingly infectious Liz Tormes. A real stunner - beautiful in every aspect and for every second of its forty minutes - methinks that 'Limelight' is just the start of something very big for this enviably creative singer/songwriter - superb!!
