Play 90 second soundbite of 'I'm Afraid' @ 'CD quality'
- I was so blown away by what I heard that I just couldn't refuse a copy of the first album when it was offered. So, this is album one of two so far from the adventurous and occasionally quite quirky Lemanis.
I'll make this short and to the point - 'Shell' is every bit as good as the second album, 'The Truth About A Push Me Pull You'! Just as unconventional, similarly unique, equally enjoyable!! Simple as that really!! Rammed with fantastic songs that have been quite obviously honed and developed over a period of time cuz you just can't come up with music like this in one quick go - this album has been nurtured and developed to become the excellent work that it is!! Breathtaking Brian Wilson-esque harmonies vie with King Crimson-esque 'orchestral' keys and things, soaring melodic soundscapes sit beautifully alongside chilled atmospherics which sit wonderfully juxtaposed to/with subtle rockin' riffs and catchy poptastic outpourings , country meets rock, acoustic meets electric, you name it, it's probably in here somewhere - absolutely brilliant!!
Nearly there now!! So; four weeks ago I'd never heard of Lemanis - now I'm completely hooked on 'em!! 'Shell' by Lemanis is everything I wanted and expected it to be; slightly angular, somewhat different, not yer run-of-the-mill indie-rock, not particularly any of yer normal genre type thingy, not a little challenging! Bloody great - that's what it is, and remember folks, this is album one and album two is just as bloody impressive! Lemanis make special music, Lemanis may not become a truly household name with their beautifully bizarre musical wares but they've got every chance of reaching 'cult' status - I love 'em, I love 'Shells' and I love 'The Truth About A Push Me Pull You'!! Nuff said, I'm now gonna go and listen again in the comfort of a nice warm conservatory, cup of tea by my side, cat at my feet and comfortable in the knowledge that I'm gonna really enjoy my time spent with the awesome Lemanis!!
