Play 90 second soundbite of 'International Love Affair' @ 'CD quality'
'International Love Affair' is Laurel Collective's latest single; it doesn't seem to fall into any single identifiable musical category but instead feels almost all-encompassing.
The cosmopolitan Collective put a whole new slant on 'pop' music with their infectious collaborative ethos and their near-tangible hunger for pop sensibility. Certainly, six-piece Laurel Collective make one very streamlined sweet harmonious 'noise' as they combine voices to become one near-choral entity. Six become one, but one is the loneliest number, so how come Laurel collective sound so ebullient and evocative? Perhaps it's down to that pretty sound work-ethic of theirs that brings them together under one common name with one common voice and with one common aim - to bring their numerous 'world' styles together to make a joyous sound whilst aiming for pop stardom on a global scale. Here Laurel Collective bring you 'International Love Affair' plus a sensational cover of Micachu's 'Golden Phone' , hey, check out the last couple of minutes of this one! So, two really catchy pop tunes - openly commercial, no hidden agenda, just pure pop music with genuine heart and real soul.
There's something extremely likeable about Laurel Collective; they sound like a band on a mission - they remind me of musical days gone by when 'community' bands were carefully assembled to give the 'common man' a unified voice for all the world to hear. Laurel Collective do whatever it is they do with style and believability - they have a rare quality that feels truly spirited and genuinely caring. 'International Love Affair' actually kinda sums up this outfit; an international love affair with music making, for the people, by the people. Great sound, great vibe and great harmony - in more ways than one!!
