Play 90 second soundbite of 'Persistance' @ 'CD quality'
They may not like me taming their genre like this but I really believe they've got more to offer than initially meets the eye (or should that be ear?). This is quality, hard-rockin', head-bangin' stuff all right but it's well written, superbly performed and honed to perfection. They drop in tasty twin guitar riffs and licks that sit comfortably within the big ingots of solid metal. Vocally there's loads to appreciate - sure there's the obligatory howlin' and screamin' but it's tempered by rich rock roots. Their whole style is generally more accessible and attractive than many of their contemporaries.
Lacerate have impressed me with their work here. They've taken what I suppose is a generically hard-edged and often abrasive sounding genre and added something rich and wholesome to it. Don't get me wrong, this aint kid gloves and soft, furry-lined shoes stuff - this is still thick leather, studded gauntlets and dirty, metal-shod boots. A heavy monster with a kind and friendly nature - five sturdy, good length tracks of four to five minutes brought to a surprisingly short and abrupt end with possibly the shortest 'hello, what was that' kinda thing that I've experienced recently.
Lacerate - watch out these guys'll cut ya down and leave yer ears bleedin'!!
