Kieronononon

EP- Brutaltechnopunk

Play 90 second soundbite of 'No One Laughed' @ 'CD quality'

Well I woke up this morning...!! It's not a new blues song...., it's how my day started!! ....Sunday morning my day of rest.... I picked up yesterday's mail and looked for something soothing and restful.... What I got was Kieronononon and their new EP, ' Brutaltechnopunk'! The clues were all there... I should have realised ....

So, how does a bit of rancid, freeform scary punk sound then.... soothing or what? Or what!! Definitely or what. Think Frank Zappa during a psychotic episode and on mind-altering drugs and on a really freaky day at the 'office'! Yep, the clues were all there; the band name, Kieronononon, perhaps should have told me that what I was gonna get might be a bit different. Certainly, 'Brutaltechnopunk' should have been the real clue!! But hey, it's Sunday, a day of rest....NOT! The monika, 'Brutaltechnopunk', sums this work up amazingly accurately - loads of freaky guitar 'noise', massive percussive onslaught, spectacular keyboard meanderings, weird and wonderful vocal outpourings and generally mucho boundary pushing! This aint for the ill-at-ease or the feeble-minded. This aint even for those of a slightly nervous disposition. This is a work well suited to the already brain-damaged, for the hard-nosed experimentalists, for the musical extremists, for the slightly deranged but open-minded. Watch out, 'Brutaltechnopunk' is all that and more!

Kieronononon's take on contemporary music is definitely gonna be a bridge too far for many of you readers. There's a real cult thing going on here; Kieronononon probably aint gonna be appearing on too many TV or radio shows so I guess they're gonna have to rely on the written word and the 'friends' networks. 'Brutaltechnopunk' is a rancid rave of discord and brutal electric noise. Defying all time signatures, unsure what key anything's in and certainly knocking down all walls of normality as they go, Kieronononon come at you like a raging bull, a rabid dog, an alien attack, an incomplete jigsaw puzzle that has a beginning and has an end but somehow the middle's got messed up - you, yes you and only you, have to make sense of it all, let it do it's worst, let it be the living organism that's unsure where it fits in nature but has to settle somewhere. Yes, it's up to you what you do with this extreme work of contemporary musical 'noise' and mayhem. But remember, these guys have to be able to play their instruments and understand musical composition before they can take things to these extremes - the guys are good - but different!!

Me, me... well I really enjoyed the experience.... it didn't happen with just one play though.... it took two or three visits before I really got a proper buzz out of this brash and risky work. Yes, I know, I'm Toxic Pete and not yer average man on the street type music lover - I like the weird and wonderful, the envelope pushers, the experimentalists - so yes, I managed to get into Kieronononon's 'Brutaltechnopunk' EP. If you're up for a challenge I suggest you try this on for size - it's scary shit but it can still be rewarding and it's certainly off-the-wall. Different kinda shit this - it need a totally different approach, an open mind, but give it a chance and it'll work for you. Take care though, brain cells may be damaged beyond repair!
