Play 90 second soundbite of 'On Top Of The World' @ 'CD quality'
Karim Fanous may not actually be the best vocalist about at the moment but he certainly knows how to deliver and catch the ear. Fanous is, in fact, quirky and his work benefits from his unusual take on all things musically popular. 'On Top Of The World' finds Fanous at full steam; this is a pretty up-tempo work that's very much driven by the incessant drum work and pumpin' bass. Fanous then delivers his slightly breathy vocals with unerringly confident panache - every word is accessible, his 'story-line' is 'open' and although at times there's quite a lot goin' on, Fanous manages to make it all sound uncluttered and so natural and easy. 'B' side, 'Architect's Son' is another impressive song which carries with it a nicely understated 'eastern' feel. Probably just as good as its bigger, 'A' side, brother 'Architect's Son' would work equally well as a stand-alone single.
Karim Fanous has a style and sound all of his own; his songs are always strong and he never fails to put everything into his performance. Fanous may struggle against some of his more established contemporaries but I feel sure he'll always have a massive and dedicated following. 'On Top Of The World' by Karim Fanous is a crackin' little single - radio friendly and thus potentially a real worker, it gets the job done and keeps Karim Fanous' profile up their in the public's eye (and ear!!).
