Play 90 second soundbite of 'Universal' @ 'CD quality'
Melodic, yes. Brash, oh yes. Mind-numbing electric rock that tears at the nerve endings as it drills itself into your head - an awesome cacophony of scintillating-rock 'n' mutilated-roll for the more deranged heavy head.
Jud hammer home thirteen great songs here with a force that's at times scary and at others simply breathtaking. Jud steer clear of modernistic metal and all of its sub-genre rather preferring to stay on the purer side of heavy rock. That said, Jud take fill space with vibrant distorted sound that reminds me of a heavy Hawkwind crossed with a dynamic Muse. It's instant impact stuff; blistering modern noise with direction and control. And, Jud aint just heavy monsters, they can take it down too and to great effect as demonstrated in 'Maggot'. But generally Jud are heavy monsters man!!
Reading their press pack I didn't actually expect the outrageously vibrant onslaught that ensued when I pressed the 'play' button - unexpected maybe but, it's quite magnificent!! Jud make all the right noises to be world beaters, commercial within its field but, 'Sufferboy' takes no prisoners, it just blasts out loud and proud. It's melodic, it's complex, it's fuckin' ballsy!!
'Sufferboy' by heavy-heads Jud is a real rockin' blast, a mind-fuck of twisted music, a organised confusion of steely sound, a contorted yet stimulating barrage of distortion and harmony, a fractured melee of electric powerhouse rock'n'fuck - bloody great and damn compelling. 'Sufferboy' by Jud is as good as anything out there - challenging yet satisfying, massive, gut-wrenchin' rock for the twenty-first century. Absolutely enthralling and enormously in-yer-face. Brilliant stuff this!!
