One thing's for sure with Johnny Mental's 'Pining For The Fjords', this is metal!! Full tilt manic aggression. Rocket fuelled head bangin'. No respite. No stopping for breath. And beware, this is not an album for those with heart problems - or mental health issues!! It's watch out for the men in white coats stuff. Students warn yer parents if you're gonna take this home!

The band name, Johnny Mental should give you a clue to what's in store here. And, don't let the evocative album title fool you either, 'Pining For The Fjords' contains many darkly named tracks such as 'Flies In Amber', 'Meat Cleaver', 'Speaks In Dead Tongues' and 'Grant Me Revenge'. Are you getting the picture?

Welsh outfit Johnny Mental stick it straight to you with ten wild ingots of cast iron mayhem. Massively solid, these angry sounding guys certainly rock. Stunningly performed and well produced 'Pining For The Fjords' does everything you'd expect it to. But, typically of this genre it does tend to sound a little samey - such was the barrage of total ear bashing songs,I found it difficult to know when one track had finished and another had started. I was actually quite relieved when it all finished. Hey, but that's just me. There's loads of metal monsters out there that'll just love this work.

'Pining For The Fjords' has got balls and energy - that's for sure. It's appeal will, unfortunately, be limited to those similarly minded speed freaks who get off on frantic, brain damaging, head bangin' and mosh pit looning. Not one for the musical purist I'm afraid. Interesting, yes. But, just too full-on and lacking variation.
