Play 90 second soundbite of 'All The Water' @ 'CD quality'
This eponymously titled album is overflowing with catchy tunes and ballsy performances. There's nothing at all 'flash' about this album; everything's proportioned, balanced and weighted to perfection.
'Joanna Erdos And The Midnight Show' is a pretty sizeable chunk of American style indie rock; but it's a lot more than that 'tag' suggests coz Erdos is no 'common or garden' indie diva, she's deeper than that, she paints pictures with her music, she involves you in her music and, cleverly, she fills her songs with a certain feelgood factor no matter what the subject matter. Erdos' style is such that everything she issues forth has a rich warmth and soft texture - even the most poignant and/or most sensitive lyrics come through with a tangible believability and an unusually friendly feel somehow - I like how this lady delivers - I like what she delivers - and I like her ability to make me listen and get involved.
Joanna Erdos takes the listener on an emotional musical journey here; her empathetic piano style is beautifully proportioned and mixed 'just so' such that her playing is descriptive rather than brash. I'm drawn to Erdos' richly poetic ramblings but I'm more drawn to the way this lady performs; Erdos doesn't so much hook you and reel you in, no, she somehow manages to make you come willingly and knowingly into her world - she tempts, teases, taunts until you're ready to give up your ability to choose, there's no other option open to you, you've just gotta let yourself go and slip into Erdos' musical head and Erdos won't let you back out 'til she's ready and you're converted!!
'Joanna Erdos And The Midnight Show' is a wonderfully conceived work - there's an intensity that's both undeniable and irrepressible but it always remains massively enjoyable. The mood generally is one of sadness and yet I feel enlightened and fulfilled somehow. I've enjoyed my time with Joanna Erdos And The Midnight Show and I'll be joining them again very shortly for some more of their passionately driven soft rockin' wares. This is an extremely impressive album from an extremely talent lady and her band of like-minded music-heads. Well worth a listen - well worth a few of your 'pounds' - well worth investing some of your valuable time in - 'Joanna Erdos And The Midnight Show' is a little stunner - a gem, a diamond even! Love it - I did - I do!!
