Play 90 second soundbite of 'Just For Now' @ 'CD quality'
Jill Barber could, I suppose, be loosely likened to Nora Jones; sure, there's a hint of Jones-esque nu-jazz in there but, for me, Jill Barber takes her music to places that Jones hasn't even thought of yet! Barber's big plus is that has a very distinctive voice and delivery - she borders on country, she sits astride folk, she emotes with a blues heart but above all she's as individual and as original as hell! Barber shows total originality, dedication and professionalism here and 'For All Time' has the potential to be absolutely massive. Probably less country than Emmylou Harris or Tracy Nelson, definitely more indie/folk than Nora Jones and possibly more universally palatable than Joni Mitchell, Jill Barber sounds like a real winner no matter which way you look at things!
Jill Barber's songwriting is nothing short of brilliant as shown by the eleven superb tracks on offer here. Barber crafts her songs beautifully; everything here's nicely proportioned, uncluttered and crystal clear. The attention to detail is breathtaking and Barber's warm vocal tones and occasional natural vibrato allow her to emote the lyrics with consummate ease. And, that commitment to precision and detail and her vocal 'tangibility' pay dividends coz every track here is easily accessible and one hundred percent believable.
Personally, I could listen to this all day long; every time I press 'play' I hear something new, something exciting. Repeat plays have only strengthened my belief that 'For All Time' by Jill Barber is a very special work and Jill Barber has a very successful future ahead of her. Ok, it'll need good promotion and a small amount of luck just like anything else but, 'For All Time' thoroughly deserves to get to the top of the pile! A stunning work this from an extremely talented lady songsmith; 'For All Time' by Jill Barber is simply divine!
