Jeff White

Demo CD

Play 90 second soundbite of 'That Scat' @ 'CD quality'

All American sound, all American style, all American Jeff White's demo is an off-the-wall work which comes as a bit of a shock on first hearing. It's just Jeff, his acoustic guitar, his voice and his lyrics. There's absolutely no doubting Jeff's guitar skills; there's some pretty aggressive pickin' goin' on here. Vocally distinctive yet with a clarity that many would die for although maybe not the best voice in the world but still pretty impressive. Here he tears his way through the complex melodies and frighteningly strange lyrics of 'That Scat', 'Cassie McFlorenge' and 'Someday...'. The delivery is right in-yer-face, good ole U.S. of A..

I'm not sure that Jeff's style fits into any genre known to the civilised world; it's folky, it's country, maybe a hint of bluegrass - oh shit, I don't know - chuck a few of the more obscure American influences into the pot and your probably getting somewhere close. It's a style that we UK-ites often have problems with but there's no doubt it's interesting.

Perhaps you get the feeling I'm not too impressed. No, not true! Jeff's total enthusiasm carries these works and his lyrics are quite fascinating at times. His guitar style is aggressive, smooth, passionate and precise all at the same time. From the short, live, encounter I had with Jeff White recently the three shortish tracks here give a true indication and introduction to Jeff White's weird musical world.

Anyway, it's always a pleasure to hear something different, something adventurous, something fresh, especially when it's done well. This three tracker certainly fits all of those descriptions, and some....!!
