Single - Down To My Grave

Ironweed is Aniff Akinola. Ironweed is Muddy Waters meets Barry White - dirty, gritty delta blues collides with sexy, ballad-like 70's soul.

One song, two tracks, the second being a remix of the title track. Ironweed adds his beautifully soulful voice to a typically mournful sounding dustbowl blues theme with great heart and style. This is a pretty unusual piece really because I'm not too sure where it fits into the scheme of things. Sure, Ironweed's hitting the obvious blues based mega-field. But it's more than that! This has an almost a genre-encompassing feel, particularly with the re-mix track, that takes the whole piece into a different playing field. Ironweed has cleverly melded together styles that shouldn't be together. He's letting us know that he's no simple blues boy. Sure, it feels like his roots are deep in the dark and dirty American blues thing but with his subtle use of vocal timbre and gentle syncopation he's reaching out to a wider audience.

With 'Down To my Grave' Ironweed has potentially opened up a interesting new pathway into black music. A sort of black eclectic that offers new dimensions, promises originality and begs to be heard.
