Indigo Road

Single - Hey It's Alright / Up For Air

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Hey It's Alright' @ 'CD quality'

This latest double 'A' side work by Indigo Road is another typically mournful but beautiful sounding work; 'Hey Its Alright' and 'Up For Air' once again feature the 'nucleus' of Indigo Road supported by carefully selected 'friends'.

This time it's Belle Erskine on vocals and a positive host of 'sessioners' that make up Indigo Road's itinerant but solidly 'together' number. 'Hey It's Alright' opens sensitively with piano and acoustic guitar before Erskine floats with her distinctively breathy and moody voice and leads the rest of the 'band' into the mix which includes some oh so sad sounding violin and a portion of blues laced electric guitar. There's no doubting that 'Hey It's Alright' is a stunning track but it's possibly just too 'dark' to attain true 'pop' stardom. Having said that, given decent exposure, 'Hey It's Alright' could just be one of the surprise packages of the year - it's certainly good enough to make a mark, it's just whether enough punters get hooked on its powerful yet sorrowful beauty.

'Up For Air', with splendid horns at its soulful heart is a beefy, hooky song that borders on gospel; again beautifully assembled and superbly executed, it shows the more punchy side of Indigo Road and has the potential to get people up and dancing in the aisles. Great work again from the talented collective that come together to make up Indigo Road. But, to me, Indigo Road sound to be more of an albums band - their music is better suited to the longer format, a band to tempt and tease over ten or twelve tracks, a whole evening's entertainment rather than just a short visitation!

'Hey It's Alright' and 'Up For Air' form a wonderfully exotic double 'A' side, not 'pop' per se but intelligent, mature nu-pop for the more discerning ear - nu-folk blended with nu-jazz and gospel, if you will, alt-pop maybe!! Whatever the 'handle', it's pretty impressive and mighty fine stuff!
