Ogogo

CD - Redux

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Lunch On The Peacock' @ 'CD quality'

'Redux' by Ogogo offers those willing to participate another extraordinary chance to sample the master of the avant-garde at work; Ogogo comprises Igor Grigoriev (guitars) and Rodney Oakes (MIDI trombone), two like-minded experimentalists coming together with instruments that might, at first, appear to be at opposite sides of the musical 'ocean'.

Opposed, juxtaposed, contrary - guitar and trombone shouldn't really work should it? However, Ogogo make it happen! With the addition of synths, percussion and 'things' Ogogo contrive to blend their musical 'forms' on 'Redux' and the result is pretty damn compelling. But, this aint no one-way conversation; oh no, for this to work the listener has to agree to listen, and I mean really listen! This avant-garde, experimental form isn't to everybody's liking and certainly Ogogo don't exactly make it easy for you but, listen-up, think on, trust me - give Ogogo due respect and give them a 'fair suck of the sauce bottle' and you may, once again, be impressed (or at least slightly swayed) by this modernistic concoction of bristly sound.

'Redux' aint exactly an album to sit and chill to but, weirdly it can have somewhat hypnotic qualities if you're prepared to let it into you mind and 'run' with it. 'Redux' can be brash and it can be, at times, harsh on the senses. But, I don't think Ogogo ever meant this to be calming and relaxing; 'Redux', I think, is meant to inspire and motivate, to cause the listener to 'pull up short', to be awakened to all possibilities. Ogogo compose aural 'mind-games' that many will refuse to even let into their heads but for those who are prepared to battle against the odds there will be satisfaction and possibly fulfilment.

'Redux' by Ogogo is heavy, heady music - some might say self-indulgent but I'd say 'obtuse', 'angular' and 'tangential'; contemporary experimental music with its own 'voice' that may not be truly 'of this world' but from somewhere from the musical stratosphere, music from the unknown heavens, soundscapes from another 'place'! Try it folks, it aint gonna be a soft and easy ride but if you just let Ogogo in you could just find yourself absorbed and yes, possibly even motivated or maybe just moved by the joy of the juxtaposed, the persuasive qualities of the un-charted and unknown. 'Redux' by Ogogo certainly moves me in a quite peculiar way and I really enjoyed my short time in 'Redux' - a trip into 'other' worlds through 'other' sounds! Bloody excellent!!
