I've said it several times before and I'm gonna say it again; sampler albums are worth their weight in gold! Samplers used to be the promotional medium for new artists signed to 'major' record labels but in the mayhem that is today's massive music scene and with the difficulty in getting recognition, they work equally well and are probably more important for the lesser known and often unrecognised artists/bands.
So, 'Hollow Smoke' is quite exceptional. I've actually been fortunate, in my web reviewing capacity, to have already been introduced to a few of the bands targeted here. Believe me, there's some mighty fine stuff here. Ok, it won't work for everyone but I'm convinced that there's something here to suit most modern tastes.
Featured on 'Hollow Smoke' are, Redcarsgofaster, The Fabulous Foxes, The Dirty Backbeats, Random Joe, Don's Mobile Barbers, Firebrand, Chapter 24, The Puppets, The Freed Unit, Former Utopia, The Bobby McGees, Pacific Ocean Fire, The Displacements, The Thurston Lava Tube, Her Name Is Calla, Jamie Says.., MJ Hibbett, Luumi and finally, Lazarus Clamp. Quite a line-up and quite a lot to take in but well worth the effort. There's some amazing stuff here and it would be wrong of me to pick out any tracks as being special. Believe me, they're all special - they're all different - they're all worth a crack! This makes great in-car entertainment; the variety is awesome and the overall vibe is pretty scary!
Everything on offer here is well recorded and superbly produced so don't think that the finished quality is gonna be iffy in any way - it's impressive stuff, through and through! Sorted Records certainly appear to live up to their name - they've got it totally Sorted!
