Play 90 second soundbite of 'Lost Track' @ 'CD quality'
Oh well, it's me that suffers for my lack of loyalty I suppose but here I am now sitting with a hot-off-the-press copy of their sensational latest work, 'A New Tide' - so I'm a happy little bunny after all!
'A New Tide' won't come as much of a surprise to the Gomez faithful; it's supposedly 'back to Gomez basics', although I never thought they'd strayed too far anyway, back to that magical, inimitable sound that Gomez and Gomez alone can achieve. It doesn't seem to matter who takes lead vocal role when Gomez 'come to town'; all the 'voices' are light, fresh and airy, typically Gomez silky smooth and super-cool. And, as per.., every song gets the full Gomez treatment and sits gloriously astride multiple modern popular genre but retains that wonderfully rich but dangerously 'broken' vocal delivery that Gomez made their own. Musically 'A New Tide' is as diverse as anything Gomez have ever brought out; flitting in and out of soft-rock nuances yet maintaining a light and breezy country-esque feel, it's an album that will totally fulfil the hungry hoards as well as whet the appetite of a great many Gomez virgins and would-be converts.
'A New Tide' is breathtakingly refreshing, massively enjoyable and totally absorbing; listening to this work makes me want to go and run through sun-warmed meadows, rejoicing all that's good about life when Gomez is in 'air'. Yes, 'A New Tide' is as inspiring as it is exciting; wonderfully intoxicating melodies and hooky choruses are conjoined with mellow moods and motivational 'overtures'. Subtleties abound as electric, acoustic and 'orchestral' combine to weave spiralling patterns of sound into, across and behind the characteristic, often quixotic, voices. Sounds cool? You betcha!!
'A New Tide' by Gomez is 'once more into the breech..' for the magical, mystical Gomez; creatively it's nothing short of exceptional, musically it's true brilliance, nothing more, nothing less! Yes folks, I absolutely love this one! Gomez-ites prepare for another amazing release from your favourite band of troubadourial musical geniuses (or should that be genii?), 'A New Tide' is gonna do it for you like it did it for me - just stunning!!
