Play 90 second soundbite of 'Burn' @ 'CD quality'
Now, you know how reggae always tends to come with a distinct feelgood factor no matter what the topic of the song? And you know the way reggae somehow always sounds better during the hot summer months? And you know the way reggae gets inside your head and instinctively your feet start to dance? Well, Gabbidon brings you all of that and more as he dishes up a tasty reggae concoction to get the juices flowing and the body parts mobile. Yes, there's a hint of rock and yes I can see there's a small element of modern dance but, essentially 'Reggae Rockz' is just a bloody good reggae album, plain and simple - forget about what it might or might not include within its shell, forget anything other than reggae. 'Reggae Rockz' is just a cool reggae work - an album for anytime - an album of finely crafted reggae beats and chilled grooves absolutely typical of the form!
'Reggae Rockz' has two sides to it that are accessed via the volume control; first there's the slick, chilled, moody 'Reggae Rockz' that is available with the volume set at sensible 'low' levels - sit and chill, lie and enjoy - smoke, drink and make love. Then there's the monstrous reggae that rocks the house when its maxed out - get down and dirty, party, party, party. For me, I like to maxed out stylee; big, loud and dynamic! But, I have to admit, I also enjoyed 'Reggae Rockz' down low and almost in the background - hey it works!. Take it how you want or how you need coz Gabbidon has pitched this 'just so' - just so it's irresistible, just so it's unputdownable!
'Reggae Rockz' by Gabbidon comes at a time when there seems to be a shortage of good, new reggae music. There's a danger that the lack of competition could hold this work back. Or, it could just start off a whole new era for the genre. Reggae is pretty timeless so 'Reggae Rockz' has a bloody good chance of being a good seller anyway - there are always takers for good reggae music and I can see no reason why Gabbidon shouldn't do very well with this tidy piece of work. 'Reggae Rockz' by Gabbidon doesn't actually reinvent the genre but it does try to bring it more in-line with modern thinking. 'Reggae Rockz' by Gabbidon is slick and dreamy reggae - everything you want and expect from it is there just waiting to give you that cool reggae buzz. A really good album this - should do well and maybe just reopen the doors for a new reggae generation.
