Play 90 second soundbite of 'Holy Sister' @ 'CD quality'
Among their influences The Franks cite the likes of Radiohead, Stone Roses and Gomez - and that's sort of where these dudes are comin' from. Frank Rapture don't actually sound like any of them (well, perhaps a bit like Gomez!) but they draw on their influences to come up with their own individual take on what I suppose could be construed as alt/country/rock. Me, I like this stuff - a lot!
Frank rapture are totally honest about their line-up too; Adam 'Bleeding Fingers' Crowley (vocals & lead guitar), Toby 'The Beard' Lunn (bass & vocals), Barney 'No Nails' Arrowsmith (rhythm guitar), Nick 'The Hitman' Ward (drums) and Computer (computer) - see what I mean - they blatantly use a pc for much of their atmospheric backdrops and aren't at all bothered about anyone knowing.
This exciting demo comes with six really impressive tracks; 'Euphoria (I'm In Deep)', 'Money Shot', 'Coming Down', 'Holy Sister', 'Deep Blue' and 'Grandma Died' and during the twenty-seven minute trip Frank Rapture transport the listener through a multitude of styles, sounds and wow what was thats! Experimental it certainly is - superbly entertaining and certainly challenging - very unusual but enjoyable, particularly if, like me, you're prepared to give it a chance and understand what goin' down here.
Ok, praise over. Criticism time - nothing wrong with the material, nothing wrong with the performance but, there's something very nasty going on with the mix. I found the lead vocals too far back, the effects (our friend Mr Computer) to far forward and unfortunately they clash all too often. Now that's not so much a problem as a technical challenge. That can be fixed.
So, Frank rapture have cast their net and they've definitely caught me in it. Onward now Frank Rapture and think hard and long about how best to tie this superb stuff together without it sounding jumbled and messy. This is early doors as far as Frank Rapture are concerned. I eagerly await the next chapter and what I'm sure is going to be an awesome piece of work.
