Play 90 second soundbite of 'Dogboys Vs Monsters' @ 'CD quality'
Genre challenging Flipron don't walk the normal pathway to musical acceptance; they defy normality, take risks, cross-over and entertain. 'Dogboy Vs Mosters' is as unusual as its title. Flipron are as mad as soggy water biscuits! But, don't get the wrong idea here - there's nothing avant-garde or 'post-rock' about Flipron - theirs is good-time, fun music with a sense of eccentric experimentation that's directionally challenged.
Opening with the mildly rockabilly laced, 'poppy' title track and it's a case of 'what's all this then?'. But, whatever it is it's really contagious. With witty lyrics and a catchy melody it grabs the attention and gets the curiosity cells working. 'Cartoon, Astronomy etc' doesn't help to satisfy the curiosity one iota; more weird and wonderful lyrics set to magical soundscapes and punchy riffs. 'Skeletons On Holiday (Singing Bones Acoustic Version)' brings this to a Hawaiian/country laced conclusion and I'm still sitting here open mouthed but transfixed.
The only other similarly madcap outfit that I could compare Flipron to is the equally weird and impressive Sack Trick. 'Dogboy Vs Monsters' is certainly different; superbly put together and exquisitely performed it's definitely one to play to unsuspecting friends and barmy music lovers.
