Tonight was no exception, by half way through their first number the place was boppin'!! Lead man Rob Turner is not only a fine singer with a powerful voice, he's a total showman. He leads by example as he dances and leaps around - sweat pouring from just about every possible pore and orifice. Rob's strong voice is as much at home singing soul classics as it is rockin' and rollin'! Dick Beard provided his usual incessant, driving drumming working perfectly with bass man Pete Savage, pumping away, effortlessly laying down his fine bass riffs. Dr.Geoff (Lewis) took front of stage with Rob and rocked along behind his dual keyboard stack and guitar and provided backing vox. Stu Field, quiet guy/guitar supremo, hanging back just behind Rob, extracted magical guitar work from his axes, only occasionally drawn into smiling at the antics of the madcap Mr.Turner.
The band were certainly in party mood and they were going to make sure that everyone else partied as well! All this was helped along by Rob's jokes, catchphrases and general audience interaction (oh, and some normal, Rob lunacy).
What other band covers such classics as, 'Sympathy For The Devil' (Jagger & Richards), the excellent 'Radar Love' (Golden Earing), 'Tin Soldier' (Small Faces) and Mike D'Abo's 'Handbags And Gladrags' (Chris Farlowe) in one show? Mix these up with some more Rolling Stones biggies, some Kinks, some Spencer Davis, add some classic soul and throw in a touch of funk and you have a fantastic night of musical variety to see in the New Year.
Tonight, The Fingers played non-stop for almost three hours, mixing musical styles, providing something for everyone and a night to remember (as long as the alcoholic poisoning didn't linger longer in the memory banks!!).
