Play 90 second soundbite of 'Broken' @ 'CD quality'
Overall, I can see what Filtered are trying to do. I can easily imagine a raucous live band here, I can see them creating a massive live sound with their energetic approach and powerful riffs. As with all trios, Filtered have to work that little bit harder to make it happen - to fill the gaps, nail it and raise the ante. For that reason only, 'Shaping The Truth' doesn't quite hit the mark, mainly due to the mix and final production; the tracks lack just a bit of oomph!! I can hear the potential right enough, I can see why Filtered are building a reputation. However, I'd like to hear them really letting rip aided by a depth of production their songs deserve.
If I'm sounding critical it's only because I feel that Filtered could sound so much better on disc with a fuller sound - more rounded, more fills, more heavy monster! They appear to have stuck firmly to the trio thing which can work very well live but there's so much more that they could do on the recording side. Filtered, as a band, seem to have sorted it all out. But, the studio Filtered just needs a little polish to bring out their best and make it magic.
