Play 90 second soundbite of 'The Deserter' @ 'CD quality'

'Old - New - Borrowed - Blue' is an album with quite a story, in more ways than one. Originally released to support a tour of the U.S. in 1996 but due to a few 'ownership' changes it hasn't been available on sale since 1997 and has become quite a collectable item. Now. in 2007, as Fairport Convention celebrate their fortieth anniversary, this acoustic Fairport Convention collection is available in all its splendour and glory. Featuring Simon Nicol, Dave Pegg, Mart Alcock and Ric Sanders it's a fine acoustic example of all that was, and still is, great about one of the most influential traditionally biased folk/rock outfits the world has ever seen.

Forerunners of the whole 'electric folk' genre, Fairport Convention have seen many changes in line-up during their forty years. Many have come and gone but there's always been a nucleus that bound the concept together no matter who was playing what. And so it is that here we have a beautifully poised and superbly portrayed 'version' of the Fairports. 'Old - New - Borrowed - Blue' is absolutely typical of this superb band. They hold the listeners attention through magnificent playing and attention to detail as they cruise through a track listing of originals, covers and trad arr songs. Sounding pretty contemporary, it has to be said, the Fairports show that they certainly haven't lost any of their passion or flair over the years. If anything, they've progressed with time and change to sound just as 'now' despite their traditional roots.

'Old - New - Borrowed - Blue' is an absolute must for any Fairport Convention fan. It's also a must for anyone looking for 'traditional folk' with a twist, something different and something wholesome. Stunning musicianship, just as you'd expect, combined with the Fairport Convention penchant for selecting and writing classy folk ditties full of clever, meaningful lyrics; whether sad and morose or jolly and up-lifting their choice of material remains absolutely spot on. This is indeed a wonderful collection of songs, all honed to perfection and given the undeniably professional Fairport treatment.

'Old - New - Borrowed - Blue' is absolutely superb. It'll bring heart to the Fairport faithful to know that this great album is once again available and it'll, hopefully, make new friends and once again open up the doors to rich pastures. Brilliant!!
