Ezio

@ The Marr's Bar, Worcester - 28/10/02

Play 90 second 'Bootleg' soundbite of 'Meet Me In The Gods' @ 'CD quality'

The Ezio video had been shown on the screen at The Marr's Bar several times recently. It whetted my appetite for the real thing and tonight Ezio performed their remarkably catchy acoustic material for a packed house.

Playing as they started out, as a duo, Ezio Lundei and Mark 'Booga' Fowell put together a dynamic and entertaining set. Remarking on the number of familiar faces in the audience Ezio initially connected with the familiar ones almost to the point of excluding us first timers. The resultant atmosphere tended towards the incestuous but as the evening went on those on and off stage grew a mutual respect for each other - thankfully!

Ezio the duo piled on the charm with their original brand of musical poetry, powerful melodies, heartfelt vocals and of course their intricate, often aggressive guitar work. Favourites such as 'Higher' and 'Meet Me In The Gods' saw audience participation at its height with a hundred or so voices providing the chorus'. Ezio the vocalist belted out his lyrics with passion and precision and Booga was just magnificent with his left hand fingers a positive blur as they flashed up, down and across the fretboard.

On the down side, I felt that the banter between songs was sometimes a little too long, albeit often very funny. In fact, they could have easily played another four songs in their set without all the chatter. Nonetheless, the end result was a powerful, dynamic ninety minutes or so. It showed that Ezio are a brilliant live act - compared to the live show their excellent recordings now seem a little bland and flat (but of course they're not)!

The audience warmed to the Ezio experience and I felt that Ezio warmed to The Marr's Bar experience - hopefully, they'll be back - don't miss them!
