Play 90 second soundbite of 'Falling' @ 'CD quality'
'Familiar Space' shows great potential. It's a well crafted work that grows as you listen - always a good sign. Loads of laid back jangly guitars and intricate rhythms compliment the impressive vocals. The tracks are pretty varied in tempo and feel and each works well. In fact, any one of the three would work well as a single.
The three offerings here, 'Falling', 'Pale Blue' and 'Mess' sound quite commercial; each is short and to the point. There's no time or space wasted on unnecessary instrumental work. Good writing, good arranging and a polished product.
Instrumentally these guys are sound. Vocally, I like the way the gentler passages are handled but just occasionally, in the 'heavier' passages, the voice feels a little unnatural, slightly forced but I'm sure that's something that can easily be remedied.
'Familiar Space' by Exit Tahiti serves as a damn fine introduction to a band that have quite a distinctive sound and should get a lot of work on the back of it.
