Play 90 second soundbite of 'Hydrogen Bomb' @ 'CD quality'
'Hydrogen Bomb' is driven by jangly, twangy guitar and all manner of clicking, hitty, scratchy percussive sounds and glorious sounding keys and things; the sound is big, bold and captivating. Eskimo Project, despite the coldness of name, deliver a warm, encouraging sound and dole out a hefty old rockin' vibe that's definitely got commercialism stamped through it.
Their promo agents think this is good enough to be the big summer hit of 2009 and I can kinda see where they're coming from with that; certainly 'Hydrogen Bomb' has an enthusiastic way about it and sure it'll probably appeal to a wide audience but quite whether it's got that kinda potential I'm not sure. Yes, 'Hydrogen Bomb' by Eskimo Project has everything it needs to be pretty big and earn a few pennies for the band but I'm not sure it's competitive enough to be the monster hit the promo guys think it will.
'Hydrogen Bomb' by Eskimo Project definitely has some balls; the band sound totally on-the-money and stunningly unified and they make a pleasant enough pop sound that'll sure get 'em noticed. But, this is a fickle and difficult to judge world and so Eskimo Project may have to be content in knowing that they've delivered a real contender into the marketplace - that's all they can do and so now it's over to the public to decide - there'll be many takers for this crisply worked little pop-rocker but will there really be enough?
