Play 90 second soundbite of 'Vostok' @ 'CD quality'
Because, neither dance nor ambient, Electroconductor aka Arlo Giunchi weaves his own brand of 'breakbeat and synth driven melodica' with 'About Time'. A step sideways from the obvious, Electroconductor mixes sound and dynamic with pulsating rhythms and punchy back-beats with finesse and direction.
'About Time' is a cool trip that tempts the senses and teases the listener down alleys you probably wouldn't normally go down. It's fresh sounding experimentation but keeping within the bounds of accessibility and normality. Electroconductor calls on jazzy vibes and orchestral sounds to bolster his moody wares. It is, I have to admit, bloody contagious and very likeable. At no time does Electroconductor veer out of control; everything's straight forward but does tend to challenge the senses as it excites the taste buds. The whole thing comes across as a multi-fusion of styles and moods - a bit of a modern day Stockhausen but with melody and direction.
'About Time' is oh so easy to listen to. Because it doesn't ever cross over into self-indulgence or drift off into surrealism, every tack is delectably tangible and easy to take in; a totally new kind of mind-trip that's enjoyable, memorable and totally harmless. Electroconductor doesn't allow himself to be drawn into space-age bleeps or electronic meanderings - he sticks within distinct guidelines as he expresses individuality and creative genius. 'About Time' may just prove to be a prophetic title - perhaps more electro-wizards will follow in the mighty footsteps of Arlo Giunchi and start to realise that electronic music doesn't have to be banal or trite.
'About Time' is indeed about time! Proof that micro-chips and silicon hardware can actually be put to true creative use. Bloody good!
