'Test of time'? Well, the sound is obviously dated and as such captures a moment in musical time or, more accurately, many moments in musical time. But, that voice, that voice is what this is all about. Dusty Springfield had a presence that few have ever been blessed with. Even before she went solo when she was lead voice of The Springfields, Dusty was showing great individuality and massive potential as a star in her own right. And, that's, of course, exactly what happened; the heavily mascara'd eyes became almost as synonymous with Dusty Springfield as her voice did. This lady had real soul! I don't think there's ever been a British female artist, certainly in the 'pop' genre, to compare to Dusty. Dusty Springfield was far and away the most inspiring and trend-setting vocalists of the time. Sadly, Dusty died on 2nd March 1999. But, the real Dusty Springfield can be found right here on this sensational album, 'Just Dusty' released to mark what would have been Dusty's 70th birthday - I can't believe it!!
Dusty Springfield was one of the first vocalists that I can remember having a real impact on me as a youngster - I well remember watching her on B&W TV givin' it out with those exquisite vocal tones and with such emotion and depth. Such was her power and artistry, Dusty Springfield, I know for sure, was a prime-mover in giving me such an interest in music, at such an early age. So, you won't be surprised to know that I think this album is the real deal! And, if the overall sound from way back when is what's putting you off then you're totally missing the point - the point is simply Dusty Springfield, legendary British female vocalist!! 'Just Dusty' features all of her greatest hits plus loads of classics from across the years - wonderful stuff - Dusty Springfield live on!!
No amount of words from the likes of little old me are gonna make one iota of difference here; this album sells itself, this is what it's all about. Classic music from one of the finest recording artists ever!! I could go on forever about Dusty Springfield but I'm not gonna, there's no need, just put her name into a search engine and take a look at all that's been written about Dusty Springfield. But, search, find, read and enjoy, the one thing you MUST do is get yourself a copy of this unbelievably brilliant album and just drink in the pure magic of the late, the great, Dusty Springfield!! Sensational album - just get it!!
