Play 90 second soundbite of 'Outbreak' @ 'CD quality'
Dustproof comprise DJ ENB (decks and production), Jez Dant (guitar), Dave Stoner (bass) and Christian Stoner (vocals) and the four combine superbly to deliver their exciting take on the modern musical form. Brilliantly melding their multiple influences to result in a really intriguing sound that offers dance-ability, singalongability and pretty hefty amounts of commerciality, Dustproof prove that you can still take a different musical road to end up at the 'indie' crossroads that could lead just about anywhere.
DJ ENB plays a major role here as he lays down the hard-core backdrop of beats, sounds and 'orchestration' that's bolstered by Dave's pumping bass lines and further enhanced by Jez's cleverly weighted and often soaring guitar work. Christian's varied but beautifully rendered vocal input is amazingly poised, elegant and eloquent throughout. Dustproof have a sound that's rich and brooding yet positively alive with modernistic feeling and cleverly developed open-ness. 'Outbreak', with its freaky timings, clever juxtaposition and beaty ebullience, is the obvious choice to take the lead role here but the 'B' side is just as persuasive and likeable albeit in a completely different but equally inspired way.
The punchy and quirky 'A' side, 'Outbreak', is supported here by the beautifully proportioned and maturely conceived 'Pictures' which shows the more mellow, but just as viable, side of Dustproof's original and enjoyable repertoire. Dustproof have contrived to come up with a sound and style that's not just original but is well thought out, well crafted, genre-blurring and therefore nicely accessible to a pretty wide audience of far-reaching musical persuasions. It's got success stamped right across it and 'Outbreak' is just the start - I've got a feeling that Dustproof are gonna be a force to be reckoned with as they trip lightly through modern musical styles and set new standards through their ability to experiment without losing touch with musical reality and/or commerciality. Clever stuff this - hard to fault, much to admire, plenty to enjoy - 'Outbreak' by Dustproof is right up there and has the potential to be a big 'hit' and reap well deserved rewards.
