Play 90 second soundbite of 'Tell Ya Mama' @ 'CD quality'
Hard rockin' and energetic, Dirty Fuzz takes me back to some of the glory days of Rock 'n' Roll - to raunchy Rolling Stones, to hard rockin' AC/DC, to soulful Tina Turner - and much more. Now, Dirty Fuzz aren't exactly like any of those but they do combine a feel of those artists/bands and have a solid quality that's somewhat retro but also very now.
Dirty Fuzz seem to have that special raw quality that so few bands nowadays seem to be able to manage. They put fun and adrenalin back into what is often a staid genre - and they do it with some style. Rock solid and totally in unison, Dirty Fuzz sound like well seasoned professionals. There's a dirty, gritty edge to this lot and I can easily imagine them kickin' up a storm on the live circuit. My one worry is that Dirty Fuzz are very 70's and I'm not sure how that will go down with modern musical tastes. To old gits like me it'll feel like the good times are back. To the younger fraternity it might just sound like dad's music - but equally, it might just come over as fresh and exciting.
Whatever I think, 'Tell Ya Mama' is a great radio friendly single (at least this edited version is!) - it's great for boppin' to in the car and it'd certainly go down well at a party. It follows that tried and tested recipe of rock hard, roll harder through big rockin' rhythms, raunchy and energetic melodies, top end musicianship and quality performance. Dirty Fuzz have come up with a gem of a single - I really hope enough people agree with me.
So, retro, post-modern, dirty rock, post-rock - who knows, and who cares! But what is clear is that 'Tell Ya Mama' by Dirty Fuzz is a great little work and should do well.
