Diarmaid O'Meara

Single - Paranoid

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Paranoid' @ 'CD quality'

Although O'Meara manages to keep the dance beats coming thick and fast for most of this work, 'Paranoid' is allowed to wander aimlessly from the 'track' on a couple of occasions which is slightly 'disturbing'!

'Paranoid' is littered with growls and groans that punctuate the otherwise industriously tainted electro backdrop; the result is, as the title suggests, slightly mind-bending - 'Paranoid' messes with the senses in so far as you don't always get quite what you expect, it's somewhat organic and is likely to take you off on a tangent just when you thought it was safe to cut loose.

There's plenty of energy in 'Paranoid' but the main essence of the piece seems to be in the almost unpredictable and slightly scary twists and turns that it takes. Some of the 'noises' that O'Meara creates along the way are a little demonic and yet it seems to work. Maybe I need to be under the influence of something to really appreciate O'Meara's eccentric but pulsating way; 'Paranoid' certainly pushes at the 'dance' envelope - this is not yer 'last waltz' kinda chune, but it is probably suited to late night excursions when heads are swimming and brains are beginning to melt.

'Paranoid' is accompanied by 'Blue' and together the two tracks demonstrate Diarmaid O'Meara's penchant for 'chasing the electro dream'; 'Paranoid' will further enhance O'Meara's reputation for being a smouldering firebrand electro composer who likes to shock as he develops his altered-mind music for the dancers and ravers out there. Some will love this but just as many will probably find it just too 'heavy'!
