Play 90 second soundbite of 'Enemies Closer' @ 'CD quality'
'The Violent Reality' is indeed just that. There's an overriding feeling of 'crash and burn' as Descent let rip with their massive wall of sound that never lets up and never gives an inch. It is what it purports to be; a violent musical reality blasted out from its solid launch pad with rocket fuelled directness and all-consuming rage. Heavy yes, but listen hard coz within the 'beast' there's some pretty tuneful stuff - Descent aren't simply rock JCB's with no finesse - they can certainly do metallic passion, but they can also do rockin' melodic and definitely know how to fuse emotions together to excite and enrage!
Fast and furious, direct and devastatingly focussed, no-fuss, no quarter given - Descent blast out huge craters from the hard-baked reinforced concrete foundations of musical acceptability using nothing but a few guitars a drum kit and voice that can crack bricks and break through masonry without flinching. The pace is relentless, the passion is high and the belief is undeniable - Descent are gonna try to break you down and crush every cell of your broken body into a pulp that can be bottle-fed back into the 'system' to feed and nurture the youth of tomorrow. These guys mean business!!
So, I guess you get the overall message; Descent aren't posing popsters or pretentious retro rockers - Descent show with 'The Violent Reality' that they're here for the long haul and they're determined to succeed with their chosen rock idiom whether you like it or not - don't stand in their way, they'll trample you underfoot and kick your soul into the shit-pit.
