Play 90 second soundbite of 'Ten Years In Harlem' @ 'CD quality'
'The Life & Times Of Jim Vallie & Sweet Rosalyn' is stunningly different. What they do would suit almost any listener; their music is not quite like any other purely because of its possibilities for massive listener catchment. Although basically a duo, Delta also perform as five piece band. Does it matter which? Well from this superb release I'd guess that it doesn't! Quality will out!
'The Life & Times....' is soulfully slick yet likeably gritty. The songs are genuinely British but somehow lightly Americana - it's a clever, wholesome and wonderfully enjoyable piece of modern musical magic. I particularly like the way that this album has been produced; it's perfect for Delta's style - not over-produced but with just enough going on to be totally playable and reproducible in the live arena (with the band of course!).
From the press pack, Grainger appears to be the main writer and Naomi is left to concentrate on the vocals. What Grainger seems very good at is writing songs totally suited to Naomi's great voice - and she delivers, big style, on each and every chune. Instrumentally I have no idea who plays what - and d'you know what, I don't even care! Delta have me thoroughly convinced and totally hooked. What a great album! - what a great outfit!
'The Life & Times Of Jim Vallie & Sweet Rosalyn' is a stunning piece of originality but retains a definite commercial side. The songs are all extremely radio friendly and given the right sort of promotion I can easily see Delta making the grade - big style! Superb!!
