Play 90 second soundbite of 'Torn Up' @ 'CD quality'
Decoys rely on classic songwriting techniques; take some damn good words, put them to infectious melodies, drop in a few tasty and memorable riffs and set the whole thing in motion with excellent rhythm work. All that's left then is to get the stuff arranged and recorded. That's exactly what Decoys have done. Their songs are not only catchy, their whole existence seems dependent upon givin' it some and then givin' it some more. Certainly, what's on offer here is quality, contemporary indie with 'balls'. Decoys have all they need; impressive songwriting, excellent musicianship and, it has to be said, quite a special sounding vocalist!
Quite whether Decoys have enough of that special quality to make a difference, I really don't know; it's a fickle, dog-eat-dog world out there and Decoys have a real fight on their hands to win the ears and hearts of the music buying public. But, given good promo and some responsive air play, you too could soon be boppin' along to Decoys. For sure, their songs are infectious and pretty radio friendly - but can they muscle in hard enough to get the break they deserve? Only time will tell.
In this often unjust and harsh musical world Decoys might just have missed the boat. If that turns out to be the case, it's a real shame; Decoys are bloody good and 'Songs About Girls' is damn good!
