Dean Owens

@ The Marr's Bar, Worcester - 23/9/01

Dean Owens came as support for Kevin Montgomery and without being disrespectful to the headliner, Dean stole the show.

A member of The Felsons, with their country, rockabilly, Celtic kind of thing, and off-shoot Marble Star, Dean is trying his hand as a solo act with some success.

Great voice, acoustic guitar and harmonica was all that was needed for this shortened set of ballady, slightly countryish, original material.

Dean has a superb, powerful voice with great range and he used it to perfection as he performed songs such as 'New Mexico' from his new CD 'The Droma Tapes' as well as some older stuff. His voice has an earthy quality one moment and a sweet, smooth quality the next.

With a great guitar style and more than a little stage presence this is someone that is well worth searching out even though it would appear that most of his gigs are north of the border.

His set was over far too quickly but there were other bonuses as Kevin Montgomery called Dean back on stage to provide vocal support on several songs later on. Montgommery also paid Dean a huge compliment by performing one of his songs, 'Anything' off the Droma Tapes album. Respect or what!!
