Play 90 second soundbite of 'Nothing Changes' @ 'CD quality'
All three songs are well structured, thoughtfully constructed and skilfully performed such that it's hard to believe that these 'guys' are so young. I know very little about the individuals or their history but that's not that important just now. What is important is that this is one exciting sounding outfit and one exciting and professional sounding demo release.
Their style is very original sounding. They're extremely tight, totally together and play with a certain coolness and genuine sensitivity, layering heavy riffs and big chords in and around impressively slick rhythms. They somehow manage to incorporate awesome rock with gentle ballad and that stands them apart from most bands of their age and ilk. Clever, meaningful lyrics are superbly handled and the clarity of recording and excellent mix ensure that everything is just so and nothing gets clouded or lost. The songs, 'If I Could Pretend', 'Nothing Changes' and 'Crying In The Wind' are amazingly moreish and there's a great depth and character to these works that is sure to impress.
There's something very clever going on with Days In Ruin - I just can't quite put my finger on what that something is - it's something to do with their depth and honest feel - it's in the song-writing somewhere - very mature and superbly crafted songs that just feel so bloody good. My God they're good!! It's all a bit frightening really!!. Without doubt Days In Ruin have sold themselves extremely well with 'Follow The Dot...'. They've certainly whetted my appetite and left me wanting more!!
