Play 90 second soundbite of 'Milo Of Kroton' @ 'CD quality'
'Milo Of Kroton' finds Cutaways once again vying boy and girl vocals to great effect; the two, Paul McIver (vocals, guitar) and Grace McMacken (vocals, keyboards), are perfectly suited and as they metaphorically 'argue' over musical space they sound like a pair destined to be vocally conjoined for eternity and it's their perfectly formed vocal 'clashing' that makes Cutaways the intoxicating force they are. But, it doesn't end there cuz the two are driven ever onwards by the sumptuous precision neo-martial drumming of Ryan Simpson as together the three make the noise of four or five and turn on the power and up the ante.
Cutaways tend towards an up-beat, nu-punk/indie sound that offers energetic attitude as well as somewhat angular harmonious discord - it's a youthful and friendly sound and Cutaways frolicking ebullience is contagious and near tangible. 'Milo Of Kroton' is short and straight to the point; it pulls you in right from the opening bars and immediately sinks its big hooks into you such that you're dragged along on its tide of attitudinal pop playfulness. Proper pop for this generation, 'Milo Of Kroton' by Cutaways is cultishly different yet commercially sound.
