Play 90 second soundbite of 'Blinded By Light' @ 'CD quality'
Core Of Nation do rock the old way, proper rock that's accessible and tangible but with just that little twist of contemporary indulgence that helps them feel 'now'. Core Of Nation hold their unified focus on all the good things about the genre and don't need to stray into the ever-deepening pit that swallows up so many metal practitioners that sound so bloody familiar and damn annoying! Core Of Nation get it right - thank goodness!
Core Of Nation's big rockin' way borders metal, of that you can be sure, they drill out their heavy monster music with all the drive associated with the genre but they keep it very real and don't quite let things run away from them; Core Of Nation feel like old-school rockers that have ventured maybe one step closer to the raucous onslaught normally associated with metal rock but have held back for art's sake and good old fashioned rock sensibility. Make no mistake, Core Of Nation rip it up beautifully and blast out what I suppose is a modern take on stereotypical rock al la Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. They even have that feeling of being just on the edge of progressive rock whilst actually standing squarely in the heavy rock idiom. Core Of Nation's music is nicely uncluttered, sensibly controlled and beautifully proportioned and I think their appeal is stronger for their stance.
It would be too easy for Core Of Nation to move just one small step into full-on metal mayhem and I believe they'd be doing the wrong thing - Core Of Nation are bigger and better than that! Core Of Nation do heavy rock with all the darkness it deserves and all the power it needs - and that's where Core Of Nation hit the spot; these guys can be heard, understood and enjoyed all the more for their restraint and control. Metal rock doesn't need Core Of Nation and Core Of Nation doesn't need metal rock! Core Of Nation have all the attributes they need and 'Machine World' is an outstanding and very enjoyable trip into mind-numbing rock'n'roll - the way it should be.
