Play 90 second soundbite of 'Adieu' @ 'CD quality'
I can only suggest that you take what Colm is offering here and relax in the knowledge that you probably won't hear anything this blissfully beautiful again for a very long time!
I believe 'Giving' is Colm O Snodaigh's debut solo album; after years with Kila I'd expect this to be stereotypically traditional Irish folk music - but it isn't!! 'Giving' is a gentle beast, a beautifully sensitive work sung in English and Irish but the language doesn't actually matter - you don't need to know what's being sung here; you just know from the feel what's going on. Absolutely beautiful - there are no other words to describe this monster of an album!!
Calling on help from some pretty well known and influential friends Colm gently caresses your soul; there's nothing abrupt, nothing sharp, nothing invasive, nothing to dislike here - it's all so bloody cool and, I'm gonna use the word again I'm afraid, sensitive! My God this is a special piece of work!! 'Giving' could almost be described as an ambient work coz that's exactly the vibe that carries this album. But, it's so much more than pure ambience; 'Giving' is a gentle kiss on the cheek when you most need it, a warm and loving embrace at that critical time, a soulmate to share things with - all of these and more! I admire Colm O Snodaigh for what he's done here; it would have been much easier to record an album of trad. Irish folk and be done with it - but, thankfully he didn't choose the easy option. I'm oh so glad Colm O Snodaigh decided to diversify somewhat because 'Giving' is special indeed!
'Giving' by Colm O Snodaigh is one brilliant piece of work - a truly excellent album of 'giving' songs. A surprise to me and I hope a surprise to you too - don't be at all put off by the 'Irish' connection or even the 'folk' for which Colm is mainly known. Just grab a copy of 'Giving', take it home and just sit back and enjoy Colm O Snodaigh for every last second, every note, every emotion - stunning, totally stunning!!!
