Play 90 second soundbite of 'Found' @ 'CD quality'
Having been compared to Alanis Morrisette and Sheryl Crow, and I can see where that's coming from, Toomey is still very much Claire Toomey - erring towards the nu-folk side of acoustic music, Toomey holds her head high in her own right and very much has her own individualistic style. Toomey strums and picks with well considered intensity to provide just the right degree of depth to suit her excellent voice and its delivery. Toomey can be sweet and serene but she can also do big and bold; at the end of the day, Toomey knows just how to bring the best out of her moving and catchy songs.
'Found', 'Somewhere To Hide' and 'Still Life' make up this impressive acoustic single release - the three songs each showing different aspects of Toomey's writing and performing repertoire. Quite whether Claire Toomey is actually a commercial prospect in the general, 'hits' sense, I'm not too sure. Toomey's work is not really chart oriented but, what 'Found' does well is it introduces the unknowing and unsuspecting public to her vibrant, melodic musical world. Toomey' work, as given here, is radio friendly and deserves to get decent air-play by the jocks that are prepared to show a little adventure; that air-play should open up whole new avenues for Claire Toomey and any subsequent album release will surely benefit from the release of this excellent single.
Claire Toomey shows that female nu-folk artists can still do the business and 'Found' is a really impressive single to help pave the way for this bright new artist. Lovely work - great voice, great skills, great songs - it's all there just waiting to be 'discovered' by the music loving public!
