Chilled and sophisticated, relaxing and musically eloquent - but more than that, this album shows the depth, spirit and beauty of an 'ancient' instrument more normally associated with classical music or, to a lesser degree, trad folk music than modern 'pop'. Fear not readers, Claire Hamilton isn't mis-treating the instrument and/or its capabilities and possibilities. Oh no, Claire Hamilton is using the harmonic and 'vocal' attributes of the harp and breathing new life into some of the most popular and well respected pop songs of the last few years. Most, if not all, you'll recognise and appreciate. The only taxing thing about 'Celtic Harp Romance' is that, as an instrumental offering, you will have to supply your own words - that shouldn't be too difficult though. However, if you have a mind-set that can react positively to new shape, new form, then the instrumental renditions given here will offer you peace, tranquillity and sensual rewards.
Now I know these kinda albums keep popping up on the TV, I know you're probably bored with the hype - but, I can't see anything wrong with this release - it's honest, it's just, and it's rewarding - if you give it a go. Maybe not for bouncy music at a raucous party but certainly as cool background music at a dinner party or just as a restful backdrop after a hard day, 'Celtic Harp Romance' has much to offer and loads to enjoy. As a re-invention work, 'Celtic Harp Romance' by Claire Hamilton does everything you'd expect it to do - it takes modern popular music, music of the people, and applies a new variation to the theme. That variation is mainly incredibly deft harp virtuoso-ism (is that a word?!) - a whole new feel, new vibe, new life if you will! 'Celtic Harp Romance' by Claire Hamilton is a work of superior musicianship delivered from an instrument that is often mis-understood and certainly under-represented - a cool, soothing and classy work of popular songs given a whole new personality.
