From start to finish 'The Sweetest Ache' is a dramatically powerful work. Strong songs performed with passion against awesomely orchestrated strings.

I first happened upon Christopher Rees (in a very stripped down form) just a few days ago. With just his voice, guitars and piano accompaniment his shortish performance cried out to me. Although I felt that the 'unplugged' outing was very good, something inside just knew there were some dynamics missing. Then I learned that Mr.Rees normally goes out as a larger outfit and there, I thought, would be the missing dynamics. And that's exactly what I've now heard with this impressive ten track work.

Heartfelt lyrics positively cried out amidst a heavy and moody backdrop of strings, piano, drums, bass and more. There's nothing to fault here as Christopher grinds his poetic way into the depths of the listeners mind and soul. His powerhouse delivery is superbly 'in tune' with the almost classical vibes of the melodies. Take the voice away and there's brilliant arrangements; take the music away and you're left with anguished vocals pouring out some pretty hard hitting and thought provoking lyrics; put everything together and 'The Sweetest Ache' is born and lives!!

Without ever needing to be influenced by anyone, Christopher Rees' music often feels reminiscent of many other artists but never actually sounds like anyone else, (I think I know what I mean there - I hope you readers do too!). This is certainly one to look out for!! Worth every penny of the ten quid I paid to get my hands on it, it's proved to be everything I hoped it would be, and more!!

This is impressive, original and exciting stuff by a talented, inspired, young Welshman!!
