Chewey Lewie & The Gungho Dynamos

Demo EP

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Is This How It's Done?' @ 'CD quality'

Chewey Lewie & The Gungho Dynamos is the brainchild of one Rob Maguder. Four tracks and just less than nine minutes here finds Chewey & Co. in pretty fine, if unusual, form.

This is punchy, off-beat, off-the-wall stuff that seems to be the life and soul of Maguder's musically manic world. None of the 'same old, same old' thing goin' on here - loads of musical mayhem and in-yer-face avant-garde fusion to get to grips with. And, it certainly does take some coming to terms with!!

'Is This How It's Done?', 'Across The Land' 'Dead Desert Girl' and 'This Is What I'm Saying To You' defy logic and normality as the aptly named Gungho Dynamos kick off all the rules and fly by the seat of their 'kicked-ass' pants. Unruly riffs and raucous rhythms vie with raw vocals throughout this work. "'Is this how it's done?" Well, not normally!! And definitely not by the musical purists! But, Maguder, aka Chewey Lewie, is not yer typical stereotyped rock star is he? Certainly not!! Musical progressions tend to go out of the window with this outfit - they toy with structure, they mess with convention - they set themselves up for a big fall. Whether they fall or manage to stand firm and proud against all the odds is difficult to imagine. Sure, there's those out there as mad as me when it comes to musical experimentation and boundary pushing - but we're in the minority and we're hard to track down. And that's where Chewey Lewie & The Gungho Dynamos'll be hard pressed to find their niche market.

Let's face it, all of the notes are there on all the instruments - it's just that not everybody puts them together in this form - but surely, someone has to take the risk sometime. That's where our intrepid Dynamos come in - they're just gonna defy all reason, take those risks and enjoy themselves being creative in their own way. If some of us 'ears' are willing to put in some work as well, they may just make a few friends.

Not for the purist - not for the weak minded - Chewey Lewie & The Gungho Dynamos are for the rarer breed of music 'freaks'. Great if it's your thing - no-go if it's not. For me, it's just another form of musical entertainment that'll always be around, but usually somewhere 'underground'!
