Play 90 second soundbite of 'Here & Winning' @ 'CD quality'
'Here & Winning' is more rock than indie, but similarly more pop than rock; Chasing Ora confuse genre rather than simply fuse them - theirs is a style that defies obvious genre classification as it leans on several modernistic styles but doesn't actually stop long enough in any one to allow itself to be labelled. The two female vocalists work supremely well and ensure that Chasing Ora can't be truly likened to any other outfit currently. Similarly, two guitars working beautifully in tandem bolster the strident sound but still allow bass and drums to drive the 'monster' groove.
Chasing Ora make a wonderfully up-lifting and refreshingly dynamic sound that's both individualistic and commercial; 'Here & Winning' is a modern sound but does have a few pseudo-retro hooks. The pounding drums sit almost opposed to some pretty incessant cymbal work as jangly guitar 'walks' over and through the voices but is never allowed to cloud or crowd the sound. And, there's something quite 'quirky' about the whole Chasing Ora sound, I can't actually put my finger on what they're doing that's different but there's definitely something going on that is pretty compelling. There's a kinda 'rough edged' but inspired and likeable feel to the whole thing that's hard to pin down! Whatever it is, it works bloody well!!
'Here & Winning' is supported by the similarly agreeable and equally punchy 'Running Scared'; two really decent tracks that give a great insight into Chasing Ora's somewhat softly aggressive way. 'Here & Winning' by Chasing Ora is a real grower as well; yes it's instantly likeable but the whole Chasing Ora sound just becomes more hooky with repeat plays - good work this, nicely different but not too angular or obtuse - and, pretty damn commercial. I like it muchly!
