Play 90 second soundbite of 'Amy's Leaving Home' @ 'CD quality'
Captain Bud don't try to mess with yer head - they don't try anything too way out or too clever - they just write and perform fantastically entertaining songs that generally defy categorisation. Ok, there's some punk, some reggae, some rock, some rockabilly; it shouldn't work but Captain Bud make it work. They seem to have take the pop sensibilities of Green Day, the skating rock of Bowling For Soup, the driven jagged punk edge of The Clash, chucked in a portion of urban Bob Marley and a few other weird and, it has to be said, wonderful influences and come up with a most enjoyable fusion that's hard to fault.
Captain Bud are tight but nicely raw edged - they don't go overboard with things - it's all just so seemingly simple but annoyingly infectious. And, their energy and playful spirit simply oozes from the speakers - these guys sound happy to be together and glad to be where they are and their whole band ethos seems to work exactly right for them. The end result is an album of gritty little songs that have something to say but never force themselves on you - you just seem to drift into the crazy world of Captain Bud without actually realising it.
'Wicked Woman' by Captain Bud is rich in originality and brimming with raw but focussed energy; eleven great and pretty varied tracks that I find I just want to listen to all over again. Yes, I was deeply impressed by the last EP I reviewed from Captain Bud - 'Wicked Woman' only strengthens my liking of Shorty, Dredge and Adam aka Captain Bud - very tasty, very entertaining - very very good!!
